Social media can do some really great things for your new, old, growing, or expanding business. You can create a business page on Facebook that people can “Like”. On Facebook, you can post about upcoming events, news, sales, opportunities or general information. People spend so much time on Facebook and Twitter these days that posting updates on these mediums is probably one of the most effective and efficient ways to get your message across to customers. On the flip side, however, you also have to be careful about what you post personally if you are in charge of a business. A lot of people will change their name on Facebook so they can’t be associated with a business in case anything they post comes under criticism. Much like being in the Hollywood spotlight, if you have your own business, for example, of doing children’s birthday parties, and you post pictures of you drinking heavily, people could really think twice about hiring you to do their kid’s party. It might seem unfair, but it is just the way it is. With that being said, social media can be very helpful in the promotion of your business but you also need to watch what you post on a personal level if you want to be taken seriously and have as many followers as possible.
