Personally, I do not like talking on the phone. I would much rather meet up with someone and personally speak with them. Having a conversation and not being able to see the other person’s gestures and expressions is the biggest drawback to talking on the phone for me. However, when it comes to work, I have had to tell myself time and time again that I love it.
During my time at iMADdu, I have had several instances where I had to speak with people over the phone that I had never personally met before. I had to imagine what they looked like and gauge what kind of person they were simply through their speech. Usually, they were just faceless figures to me with a name and a gesture-less impression. On the contrary, I also had to work to present myself most properly in a professional manner over the phone.
I cannot say that I have come to really love talking on the phone yet, but I can see that I’ve gotten much better. iMADdu assigned me a number of tasks that required me to hold long conversations with people I have never met over the phone, thus I am much more comfortable and familiar with meeting someone at a certain time over the phone.
