After a first date, we gauge the other party’s interest by seeing how the follow-up procedure plays out. I am no love guru, but it is said that how one follows up after a first date often determines the level of effort, interest and commitment which serves as the base of the relationship. Furthermore, it is a common courtesy.
This common day procedure is no different in the business world. I have truly learned how important following up is from both sides: following up and being followed up with. The impact of following up really hit me as I took part in the HR department of iMADdu. Receiving follow-up messages automatically resulted in adding additional “brownie points.” It also left me with an impression that the person is both courteous and has a higher level interest.
Prior to being in the position to receive follow-ups I didn’t truly understand the importance and impact that following up had. Now that I have, I regret the times I didn’t fully follow-up with people after dealing with business matters. For the future, I will make following-up second nature and I will make it a strong word of advice for others to do so as well.
