Schools and the public in general think too much and too highly of large corporations and businesses. Why does everyone want to work for them when you usually start off at the bottom with very few opportunities to rise? What about small businesses? What about stable small businesses that present a much better opportunity for advancement as well as managerial experience? I currently work for a small business that I have literally climbed to the top of the ladder. Why? Because it’s a SMALL BUSINESS.
I am currently at the age of 22, learning about how to operate and lead a multi-million dollar company that 5 years ago I was working the cash register for. The amount of responsibility I have at this small business is by far more than any experience I can obtain at this age at a large corporation. Small businesses provide such smaller ladders to climb and provide you with a lot more useful experiences to take into the big world. Small businesses should be looked into more by those graduating high school and college. The pay is usually less than a large corporation but small businesses provide you with a lot more responsibility as well as far better experiences that can determine your level when moving to a large business. Schools should educate children and young adults more on small businesses and the impact they place on the workforce as well as the economy. The general public disregards and forgets all about the positives small businesses bring to the people.
