My long-term goal has always been to do something interesting that challenges me. Early in my career, I settled for a job that I hated, only because everyone told me that I needed a steady job once I graduated from college. I remained at this job for over a year and a half, only because I was too worried about what everyone else thought of me. I had an epiphany one day when friends told me that my work was affecting my behavior in a negative way, and that I should consider another career. I abruptly left the job, and decided to pursue what I have always been passionate about: film.
Since I was a kid, my dream had always been to direct and act in my own feature film. Most people have this dream when they enter the film industry, only to have it shattered when they meet all the naysayers. When I finally decided to venture on my own and make my first feature film, practically everyone told me that I was crazy, and that it couldn’t be done. Hearing this, I felt more motivated than ever to make my film, and I knew I would find a way to make it happen. Now I’m very happy to say that I did make my film, and am now working on another one. It’s the only type of work that I enjoy, mostly because it really challenges me.
If you told me 5 years ago that this is what I’d be doing with my life, I would’ve thought you were crazy. However, if this type of work ever fails to stop challenging me, then I’ll move on to something else. Always challenge yourself.
