I can’t do something?…Christopher Pedersen

I almost hate saying it, but one of the biggest motivators I have in life to perform at my best is people telling me that I can’t do something. This has been true for me with work, sports, and my personal life, among other things. Too often people will tell you that something is not attainable simply because they’re either too afraid to try, or have tried, and failed. Of course they won’t tell you this. Most of the time people give up after failing at something once, and have a negative attitude towards it for the rest of their lives.

Take starting a business for example. I’m currently working on my 3rd business venture. The other 2 ventures failed, and left me broke and in debt. At times I was very discouraged, and did not want to try again. But I realized that this is the point where most people give up. They fail to look at the big picture. You learn a lot from having a business fail, and you have to take that knowledge and use it for the next business you try. When people keep telling me that I should quit trying to start my own business, and just settle for a regular job, it motivates me to try even harder. I know that eventually things will work out, even though I may fail a few more times. But confronting my opponents gives me all the more confidence, and I know that I’m a much better person because of it.
