Textbooks and lectures cannot simply foster an effective workforce. A crucial component of having a truly effective workforce is experience. Apprenticeship provides just that. Through an apprenticeship, students are presented with the tremendous opportunity to immerse themselves in an organization and really learn how it runs. While text books may tell students how a business works, through an apprenticeship, students actually get their hands “dirty†and experience how a business works. In classrooms professors always preach about a generic business model. Students may not fully understand that every business is unique and has its own set of challenges. Being able to adapt to the unique set of problems that every business presents is a skill that I believe can only be obtained through experience. Such experience can easily be gained through an apprenticeship.
